Commissions & Collaborations

Concentus has had the great honor to commission pieces from and collaborate with a variety of partners over the years.

2024

In January, Concentus was thrilled to sing both Holst’s The Planets and Debussy’s Nocturnes with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) under the direction of guest conductor Peter Bay.

Singers from Concentus were invited to participate in the RPO’s Eclipse Concert at the Blue Cross Arena in celebration of the Total Eclipse in April.

In May, Concentus partnered with Rochester Refugee Resettlement Services to honor the work they do in our community and help raise awareness and funds for their programs.

2023

In April, Concentus was invited by Jenny Hersch to perform Scenes From The Revolution at the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) conference, which was held at the Rochester Convention Center. This musical was composed by Jenny’s mother, Aline Shader, in 1974-1975 for the Bowen Elementary School in Newton Centre, MA, to enhance their understanding of the American Revolution and to celebrate the Bicentennial in 1976. The score is available here.

Concentus was invited by Vox Anima Chamber Choir to collaborate on a concert with them in Kent, England. Being Me was commissioned by Vox Anima and had its world premiere in July with the joint choruses, under the direction of James Meaders. Lyrics by Joshua Everett, music by Joanne Gill.

2022

In March, Concentus was invited to participate in the Eastman School of Music’s Centennial Celebration.

In June, Concentus collaborated with the Webster High School Women’s Chorus to present the premiere of Caroline Mallonee’s The Right and True.

2019

In January, Concentus performed in a joint concert with the Buffalo Women’s Chorus (an extension of the mission of Buffalo Girlchoir).

Concentus performed at the Susan B. Anthony Birthday Luncheon in February, the annual fundraiser for the Susan B. Anthony Museum and House

In December, Concentus once again performed on WXXI’s Backstage Pass. 

Concentus was honored to receive a grant from the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium to commission a piece from composer Caroline Mallonee. The Right and True was intended to premiere at a concert in June 2020 but had to be postponed due to the Covid pandemic.

2018

In January, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO) engaged Concentus to perform Debussy’s Nocturnes, under the direction of guest conductor Marcelo Lehninger.

In April, we once again performed Holst’s The Planets with the RPO, under the direction of guest conductor Hans Graf.

2015

In April, Concentus performed on the WXXI program “Live from Hochstein.” 

In early May, Concentus participated in a fundraiser for Willow Domestic Violence Center.

Concentus was engaged to perform on a Baroque program with the RPO under guest conductor Daniel Meyer on May 31 at Hochstein School of Music. 

Concentus was again pleased to collaborate with Rich Wilder on a composition for the group’s holiday performances in December. Ringing Bells featured soloists Rebecca Kolstad and Laura Jones. 

2014

Concentus was engaged to perform Holst’s The Planets in May with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), under the direction of guest conductor Michael Francis.

Rich Wilder composed Where is My Love for a world premiere by Concentus in June. To read about this collaboration, click here. Where is My Love featured Kotoist Debbie McCullough and soloist Kara Juszczak.

In October, Concentus collaborated with the Penfield Symphony Orchestra in presenting Holst’s The Planets. 

Singers were invited to participate in the RPO’s concert of Video Games Live in November, under the direction of guest conductor Emmanual Fratianni.

2012

In March, Concentus performed again with the Rochester Chamber Orchestra and Bach Children’s Chorus.

In April, Concentus was invited to perform on a program with the Eastman Treble Chorus and Eastman Repertory Singers

2011

In May, Concentus premiered David Fetler’s Toward the Unknown Region with the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of David Fetler.

In October, Concentus performed at the invitation of Musica Spei for the 11th Annual Rochester Early Music Festival.

2005

Concentus performed as part of the October Induction Luncheon at the National Women’s Hall of Fame in Seneca Falls. Inductees included Hillary Rodham Clinton and Maya Lin.

2004

In May, Concentus and Visiting Nurse Service collaborated on a benefit concert for their hospice program. 

In November, Concentus performed I learned that her name was Proverb, a commission composed by Deanne Witkowski

Greater Rochester Choral Consortium

Concentus has been a continuing member of the Greater Rochester Choral Consortium (GRCC) since 2006, and has been pleased to participate in their bi-annual PRISM “Taste of Song” Concerts in Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre in the following years:
